Hi Everyone,
Pavilion Fire Update – Saturday Meeting & Summary of Topics
I thought I would post an update to Saturdays’ discussion around the Pavilion fire and restoration plans. The Polish Club was the perfect place to meet – 50 residents assembled and we had an open forum for well over an hour followed by some drinks at the bar. Our hosts, the St Joseph’s Polish Society, were gracious and very supportive and invited us back anytime we need to gather. I recanted the events of the night of the fire and announced that although the fire marshall has labeled the fire investigation on going, all the evidence points to an electrical fire, likely caused by the refrigerator, and not an act of arson.
Thanks to equipment provided and manned by John Allegra, The Properties Crew and volunteers (Brian, Dave, Don, Dan, John Jacoby, Security Chair, Dave Glazier), the debris has been removed and area power washed. What a difference! Pictures will be posted soon – perhaps already on the Facebook site. A special thanks goes to Don Fantozzi who labored for two days salvaging scrap metal that yielded over $270 in cash that goes toward the building fund.
Many shared their thoughts about the design and capabilities of our new pavilion and it was suggested that people send in pictures of pavilion structures that they see in the area that they might like as a guide to the planning committee. There seems to be support for a similar, but better , structure, that provides for handicap access, improved toilet area, low maintenance, convenient storage and a great look that we can be proud of!

I appointed Larry Lusardi as Chair of the Building Planning Committee with assistance from Jeff Walters, Jason Griffing and Bob Sudell. We expect the committee to be made up of no more than 12 people who will be reporting in to the board for final approvals on their recommendations.
While functional roles and specific appointments are in the process of being developed, the committee will be tasked with design , cost estimates, bid specs, bid reviews and award recommendations, project and site management, community communications, volunteer coordination ,community donations, Landscaping, and our Grand Opening Gala. If you have an interest in helping in any of these areas, please send me an email. This will be a work horse committee, so please note what you can bring to the group in way of skills and experience. We do not have a date yet for the first committee meeting. In the meantime, we are still working with the adjuster to determine the insurance coverage and replacement values and to determine if we need an adjuster to represent our interests.
I promise to keep the process going and to keep you all informed as things develop. If we are to have our new pavilion ready for next season, much needs to be done in a short time and we are reviewing the bylaws to determine the board’s authority and procedures we need to put in place to accommodate special meetings under special circumstances if necessary.
Continue to stay informed !
